NFL Week 11
November 21st, 2006 by brian
I have to start off by bragging about my six-game winning streak in fantasy football!! Despite losing a running back and receiver to injuries early in their games, my main man LaDainian Tomlinson lit up the field once again and saved the day. Aside from my fantasy thrills, it was a week of injuries, stout defenses and shutouts, along with the obligatory blowouts and nail biters. Big names like DeShaun Foster, Brett Favre, Donovan McNabb, LaMont Jordan, Marques Colston, and Kevin Jones were bitten by the injury bug, though some more severe than others. And just like it seems we will never see the horse racing Triple Crown, another year will pass without a team going undefeated. Here’s a peek at this week’s action…
  Â
Â
For the majority of the game, the Pittsburgh Steelers looked like they were headed for the basement of the AFC North. Instead, they capped a 21-point fourth quarter comeback with a touchdown as the game clock showed 32 seconds for a 24-20 victory. Say what you will about the erratic play of Ben Roethlisberger, but the guy certainly can lead a comeback.
  Â
Â
Chad Johnson had another huge day as the Bengals earned a much-needed win in New Orleans. Even without his top receiver Marques Colston, Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw for a whopping 510 yards in the losing effort. Unfortunately for Brees, two impressive drives ended with interceptions in the endzone. The previously high-flying Saints are now on their first losing streak of the season.
  Â
Â
The Carolina Panthers defense flexed their muscles in a 15-0 shutout of the Rams, which was the fifth consecutive loss for the reeling St. Louis team. The Carolina offense still isn’t clicking like they are supposed to, but they are definitely making strides towards being the team we expect them to be.
  Â
Â
The Dolphins have now won three in a row, as their defense scored two touchdowns in a 24-20 win over the Vikings. This was supposed to be Daunte Culpepper’s chance to play his old team, but instead we had Joey Harrington playing against his former NFC North nemeses and recording his first career win against the Vikings. Can’t wait to see what Joey does against his old team, the Lions, on Thanksgiving.
  Â
Â
The Atlanta Falcons continued their downward spiral by allowing the Baltimore Ravens to get on track in the second half and notch a convincing 24-10 win. The Ravens have got to be one of the quietest 8-2 teams in recent memory… they keep winning, but few people are talking about them.
  Â
Â
Aaron Brooks and Trent Green came back from injury for the Raiders and Chiefs, respectively, in a game that saw the Oakland offense awaken and lead for most of game… that is until there was 1:31 left in the game. Leave it to my Raiders to tease me before succumbing to their usual suckiness.
  Â
Â
The Jason Campbell era began for the Redskins, and it wasn’t a pretty site. Before the season started, this match up between Washington and Tampa Bay looked good on paper, but far from it by the time week 10 rolled around. This kid may be the future for the ‘Skins, but that future definitely needs more time to develop.
  Â
Â
A late touchdown by the Bills allowed them to win the game against the Texans and not waste the two (count ‘em, two) 83-yard touchdowns by receiver Lee Evans.
  Â
Â
The Philadelphia Eagles lost their game against the Tennessee Titans, but more seriously, they lost quarterback Donovan McNabb for the season with a torn ACL. The Eagles have struggled recently even with McNabb in the lineup… you can now stick a fork in this team.
  Â
Â
The Patriots couldn’t possibly lose three games in a row, could they? Nope. New England manhandled Green Bay 35-0 in a bout that saw Brett Favre injure his elbow and miss the entire second half. Fret not Favre fans; his elbow will be fine and he will play next week and continue his record streak of consecutive starts.
  Â
Â
For the second week in a row, the Bears traveled to New York, and for the second week in a row, they went home with a victory. The Bears weren’t all that impressive on offense again, but when you have a defense like that, it doesn’t matter.
  Â
Â
Shaun Alexander made his return from injury against the 49ers, but San Francisco dominated the game for their third win in a row. Frank Gore ran all over the Seattle defense on his way to 212 yards. Don’t look now, but the surging 49ers are just one game out of first place in the NFC West.
  Â
Â
No miracle comebacks for Peyton Manning and the Colts this week. Indianapolis and Dallas exchanged turnovers throughout the game, as Tony Romo and the Cowboys got the privilege of handing the Colts their first loss. Don’t shed any tears for Indy… this loss could actually be good, as they can now focus on making improvements and not deal with the constant media frenzy that surrounds an attempt to stay perfect.
  Â
Â
The Cardinals streak of eight consecutive losses finally came to an end when the lowly Lions came to town. The loss of running back Kevin Jones hampered the Detroit offense in a fairly unimpressive game between the two teams that have the best shot and earning the #1 draft pick in 2007.
  Â
Â
Those San Diego Chargers did it again, coming back from 17 points down to top the Denver Broncos 35-27 behind the four touchdowns by LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson set a new NFL record as the player to reach 100 touchdowns the fastest in his career. This man is truly amazing, and I am running out of words to describe just how dominant he has been. What I can say is that I am very grateful to have him on my fantasy team.
  Â
Â
The New York Giants had consecutive primetime games, and lost both of them with the eyes of the nation watching. Their latest loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars made it very apparent that the slew of injuries is affecting this team in ways they cannot overcome. Their commanding lead in the NFC East has dwindled, as they now share the top post with Dallas. Should be very interesting to see how this division plays out in the final weeks of the season.
